The IVY Collection | Eleonore Habsburg x Schullin Wien

Recent design school graduate, Eleonore Habsburg has collaborated with famed Vienna Jewelry Atelier, Schullin Wien to create a collection that reflects the essence of Mediterranean Flora & Fauna. The line appropriately titled “IVY” is the first jewelry collection to be designed by the 26 year old Salzburg native. Habsburg, who recently completed her Masters degree in Fine Jewelry at Instituto Marangoni in Milan, has undoubtedly created a collection that is reminiscent of the finest designs of Van Cleef and Bulgari, yet somehow entirely unique and original.

Speaking on the collaboration Habsburg says “I am thrilled to be working with a brand I can identify with, one which shares a similar appreciation for interesting gems in contemporary elegant design. Working together with their exceptional team and highly experienced goldsmiths helped me bring my first collection to life. The IVY Collection. I have been working hard on this for the past months and I am very excited to finally be able to share it.”

Eleonore’s passion for nature, which has led her to travel to some of the world’s most remote regions, is very apparent in the IVY Collection that combines the best of cultural and ecological design elements. For Habsburg, jewelry is a deeply personal statement. Speaking on the subject, Eleonore says, “Jewelry, to me, is a means of self expression that can surpass generations. Fortunately, growing up I have been able to travel to many different places around the world and explore how jewelry is worn across different cultures. My inspiration was fuelled by paying attention to the details of cultural heritage, architecture, art, fashion and nature.” One particular place that became the central influence in the IVY Collection, is the homeopathic medicinal gardens of the Franciscan monks. The gardens which are situated within a 15th century former monastery on the shores of the Mediterranean sea in Lopud, Croatia, have benefited from a passionate two decade long renovation carried out by Eleonore’s mother. The late Franciscan Monastery that is located on a small island near Dubrovnik is now a 5 suite boutique hotel named LOPUD 1483.

Shortly after finishing her education in Milan, the newly married Austrian designer was offered the chance to conceive her first line with Vienna based firm Schullin, well known for their collection of custom jewels and selection of renowned timepieces. “Over the past six months we have developed a collection made of 18 carat gold with Ms. Habsburg.  These are rings, bracelets and earrings – some with diamonds or gemstones.  The pieces are limited and made by hand, “says jeweler Lukas E. Schullin about the “IVY” line. The delicately crafted pieces are principally made from rose gold and showcase fine feminine lines and unique elements of Mediterranean flora. Two pieces that we believe are particularly noteworthy are the IVY VIII Earrings, priced from just € 3,800 and the IVY IX Bracelet, priced from € 6,500.

Habsburg, who is the granddaughter of renowned art collector, Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, grew up surrounded by a family with a passion for art and imaginative design. Something the young designer undeniably put to good use when developing her first collection. “From childhood I have been collecting minerals and stones everywhere I went. Gemmology never ceases to amaze me, and the synergy of taking nature’s creation and making them wearable is an idea I adore.” Speaking further on the subject of inspiration for the IVY collection, Eleonore says “I drew my inspiration for the IVY collection from a Mediterranean Franciscan herb gardens going into blossom. The different pieces are composed with 18 carat gold, black, champagne and white diamonds, sapphires and aquamarines. It was important for me to incorporate different colors into the collection, giving life to the pieces. My dream is to create jewelry for every generation. It is about valuing timelessness and sentimentality, whilst still fitting comfortably to every occasion.”

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion

When choosing fashionable gifts for any occasion, choices include not just apparel, but accessories and hi-tech wear. From classic to bold, mixed prints to feathers and texture, there are plenty of fashionable gifts for everyone. Whilst you want your gifts to be great, remember to spend some quality time with the people that you care about, certain that your fashionable gifts will be very much appreciated. Here are some suggestions.

Classic fashion

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion

We all want to look good in the colder weather as we go to work or to enjoy our leisure time. Sultry suits for the office and classic killer coats are both sexy and practical. Argyle knitwear is officially back in favour as jumpers and cardigans matched with a chic skirt or classic trousers.

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - Floral Green Dress

For something more colourful, try jungle prints on beaded cocktail dresses, with bold coloured accessories to break the look, perfect if going to a party to celebrate an occasion. Versace has reimagined its infamous jungle-print gown for a look that will turn heads.

Jewellery

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - Diamond Ring

Choose long, glittering earrings and in bold colours. Necklaces are also bold in colour, incorporating brand signatures and logos and tiny initials created from tiny gems. Classic jewellery styles never go out of fashion, which makes them and can end up creating a wonderful heirloom piece.

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - Emerald Green Coloured Diamond Necklace

Diamonds will forever be a girl’s best friend and are a perfect gift for your beloved on any occasion. While the diamond anniversary is achieved after 60 years of togetherness, you could combine this with modern anniversary gifts by year that are arranged by colour.  Combine diamonds with red for your second anniversary, blue for your tenth, emerald green for your twentieth and an entire range of colours for all the following years.

New sneakers

Many of the big-name fashion houses have been working in collaboration with other artists to create some amazing shoes. For someone who always wears sneakers, gift a pair in the season’s colours of bold orange and blue. If being eco-friendly is a focus for gift-giving, there are all-wool sneakers that are lightweight and breathable, cool in the heat, warm in the cold, and they are also machine-washable and odour-resistant, making them great for all ages as they are available in sizes for children as well as for an adult.

Practical bag

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - Tote Bag

The age of the tiny bag, no bigger than something that can carry just a phone, has come to an end. All the fashion houses have launched oversized totes, hobo bags and clutches. Consider a fluorescent yellow clutch with studs or a large white tote. A circular macramé-style bag, a bright blue bucket bag or bags over-the-top with feathers and fluff can be found everywhere, with classic black bags for those who like the more formal look. Choose a bag in the new season colours of bright tangerine orange and blue.

Carry-on travel bag with charger

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - bag

Mix fashion with practicality with a carry-on bag that incorporates a removable battery that can charge up your devices whilst you are on the road or have no access to an outlet. Choose from a classic glossy black, polycarbonate shell, or a more colourful rose or silver colour. For something with a focus on travellers who want their clothes to stay neat while on the go, select a suitcase with built-in shelves that pop up to provide space for housing all your clothes and travel accessories.

The Bluetooth Audio Sunglasses

Be the height of fashion with hi-tech sunglasses that connect to Bluetooth and play music near your ears without anyone else hearing what you are playing. Listening via bone conduction helps save your ears from becoming sore from wearing earbuds.  Audio sunglasses come in a range of styles, colours and lens shades, or in a unisex style that suits all face shapes.

The Apple Watch Series 5

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - Apple Smart Watch

The very latest from Apple Watch, the Series 5 has a slightly bigger face with more band options that makes it perfect for both men and women.  This watch is also totally waterproof, and the speaker is half as loud again as the Series 4. It can also be used as a heart/health monitor, a partner for your workout, an activity and fitness tracker and more.

Talking Jewellery with House of K’Dor’s Zena Kaddour

Meet Jewellery designer, Zena Kaddour, who along with her husband Tarick, head the Sydney based House of K’Dor. Now entering its 20th year of business, the House of K’Dor, which was founded by Tarick in 1999, has become a name synonymous with extravagance. The husband and wife duo currently craft some of the most desirable creations in the bespoke jewellery industry.

Having just returned to the House’s flagship Double Bay Boutique from a recent trip to California, Zena who serves as the brand’s Creative Director tells us, “I’m inspired by creating happy moments for others through kindness, giving, hospitality and just listening and creating. I see our passion of sharing our beautiful pieces with the world as a way of spreading happiness.”

Mrs. Kaddour, who is a mother of three, is highly passionate about sourcing ethical jewels and building House of K’Dor through partnerships with elite brands, such as Lamborghini, Moet Hennessey and Etihad. However, the Kaddour family is not only well regarded for their contributions to the world of jewellery, but also the world of philanthropy, where Zena and Tarick regularly support organizations that improve the lives of women and children.

Talking Jewellery with Zena Kaddour
Talking Jewellery with Zena Kaddour

When did you first become passionate about jewellery design?

Naturally, I’ve always loved jewellery. I come from a big, vivacious family where the women always dress up! My husband Tarick has been a jeweller for as long as I can remember, and through observing him create art and working together I was able to connect the emotion of wearing a stunning piece with the architectural and technical aspects that give it harmony.

“I think of jewellery as much more than mere ornaments, but rather personal and unique pieces that are an extension of ourselves. Jewellery can reflect our personality, and instantly connect us with the energy of the universe. It is great that Tarick and I share the same passion, as our taste has been refined and expanded into more global influences over the years.

What are you currently inspired by?

“People! Always people. My family, friends and guests make my world go around, and I am so inspired by everyone I get to meet in my travels and in my every day [life].”

What are some of the differences between House of K’Dor’s Fine, Signature and Bespoke lines?

The Fine collection is underpinned by modern, elegant classics – think thin diamond stackable rings, fine delicate tennis bracelets and chic diamond studs. It uplifts a daily wardrobe. Our Signature collection is inspired by the honeycomb, which, with its sweet centre and hexagonal base, underpins the joys of life derived through teamwork and an abundant, positive mindset. We translate those elements into design by playing with the hexagon, honeycomb and bee motif in our delicate diamond pendants, bracelets, initials and earrings. It’s a lot of fun and this range is eternally popular with our guests. The Bespoke line, for me, is a personal relationship that exists between a person and a precious stone. The stone is the star that pulls at someone’s heart, which are then housed into a collaboratively designed setting that enhances the shine in both the stone and our guest. The initial consultation is my favourite part of the process, because it’s an invitation to embark on a journey with our guests and together, create magic to bring a bespoke piece to life.”

How would you describe the House of K’Dor’s ready made collections?

“Elegant, modern, joyful. We love to play with diamonds and precious stones for every day, ensconced in delicate and wearable pieces. Sleek and streamlined design that still feels glamorous and elevated is true luxury. Our guests instantly feel their spirits lift as soon as they put on a K’dor jewel, even in a jeans and a simple t-shirt… and that is the point. To bring happiness and confidence through love and beauty.”

“She is rare, exceptional – exudes in sophistication, confidence, grace, kindness and timeless elegance. She is a K’dor Diamond.” is a motto we love.

Walk us through the process of creating a bespoke piece of jewellery with a client?

“Our guests are greeted and welcomed into our home and instantly become part of our K’dor family. The initial design concept takes place in our beautiful boutique and around our dining table, which is always brimming with love and energy! Our Kdor concierge team ensure that every element of the consultation is unforgettable by going above and beyond: we like to take our guests on a journey that elevates all their senses. Whilst we design, for instance, our guests indulge in Michelin star cuisines paired with French champagne.”

Our guests may already have an idea of what they’re looking for, so we hear out their ideas and contribute our professional suggestions to the consulting process. I look at everything – what they wear, their facial proportions, the length of their fingers and hands… to discern what would elevate their self expression and dazzle their features. All ideas are valued and heard. Then we go about selecting the stone. We don’t compromise on a stone’s quality just to achieve size, all our diamonds are D E F and VS clarity and are ethically sourced. This is incredibly important to us. That special stone is then meticulously placed into an impeccable setting, fusing our guest’s desires with a technical artistry that maximises that stone’s brilliance.

What is your personal approach when commissioning a bespoke piece of jewellery? What are the key elements that you look for?

Lifestyle, lustre, proportion and instinct. To me, jewellery is very personal and alive. So, if I get a hunch of what may work but isn’t readily considered, I always put that idea on the table. I believe we are all diamonds at heart – unique, bright and brilliant. We all have a light within us and we shine the brightest when we connect. So, creating a bespoke piece is a very precious moment. Every stone has a story and as a jewellery designer, it is up to us to create art and showcase its beauty to the world.”

Talking Jewellery with Zena Kaddour K'Dor Jewellry
Talking Jewellery with Zena Kaddour - K'Dor Jewellry

I imagine this is a difficult question, but can you tell us about some commissions that you are most proud of?

“We are of course proud of all our commissions, as an intensive amount of care, meticulousness and creativity goes into each piece to ensure its perfection. However, recently, we designed and created a magnificent work of art featuring an exceptional and rare vivid green emerald weighing 13.44 carats, meticulously handcrafted in 18k white gold adorned by over 5.19 carats of diamonds. It’s a truly captivating design that harnesses the emerald’s innate beauty.”

Do you feel that you and your husband’s Arab heritage have influenced the brand? If so, in what ways?

I think if anything, it influences our sense of hospitality! We love to have people over, we love to celebrate, and that attitude rings through every touch point of our brand. As a designer, my husband is actually rather pared back, preferring clean and elegant lines to overly ostentatious pieces…. and I would also consider my style quite restrained and low key. I love black! But yes we definitely love a big, opulent celebration…

Take us through a day in the life of Zena Kaddour.

We have three kids – so my days always begin with them. They’re my number one priority and endless inspiration. After school drop off, I drive to our Double Bay boutique, where the day is filled with consultations, appointments and phone calls to build our corporate relationships, as well as the philanthropic arm of our business. I always feel like I am zipping around and always on the move… However I feel truly blessed, like a diamond there are so many facets to this business that I love and adore. And I am incredibly grateful for the love and support we’ve received globally as a brand, and our ability to give back to the community. But yes, daily I’m with my kids, in the store, or on the phone with various arms of our ‘family’. I love it!

In addition to your role at the House of K’dor you are also on the female advisory board of Lamborghini, with that said, can you tell us a little bit about how you first became involved with the automaker?

“Lamborghini approached me after they saw the growth of our business, and they were looking for professional and entrepreneurial women to help shape various brand conversations. It continues to be an incredible honour, and now we have a working relationship where Lamborghini feature in our events and we in turn, have been able to collaborate on beautiful products. As brands and humans, both Lamborghini and House of K’dor value people, artistry and pushing boundaries in impeccable design. It’s a perfect fit.”

Being your locale of choice, what do you believe sets Sydney apart?

Sydney feels far away from most of the world, but it’s very sophisticated. The residents here are very chic, and the clean air, beautiful food and impeccable beaches offer us a great lifestyle as a family.

Where to next?

We are excited to be showcasing our House of K’Dor diamond collections in partnership with Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi next month, as well as expanding our presence globally. With e-commerce and a great team behind us, the world truly is our oyster – and there’s no limit to how many happy K’dor memories we can create!

Bulgari’s “SerpentiForm” Exhibition Dazzles Chengdu Museum This Summer

Having held the “SerpentiForm” exhibition in Rome in 2016 and Singapore and Tokyo in 2017, Bulgari presents their Chinese patrons with a feast of precious Bulgari Serpenti pieces at Chengdu Museum in China this year. The show runs until August 25th. Jean-Christophe Babin, Chairman and CEO of Bulgari, attended the opening ceremony and gave an introduction of exhibition contents with Brand ambassadors Kris Wu and Jolin Tsai joining the conversation.

The Serpenti design has always been a distinctive element of Bulgari’s jewelry. Stylized serpent ornament reconciles a powerful vibe with a glossy elegance. The Bulgari Serpenti bracelet-watch worn by Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra, for example, heightens a sense of dangerous beauty of the movie where Taylor (as Cleopatra) shines with her starring Bulgari pieces. At the “SerpentiForm exhibition” held at Chengdu Museum this year, visitors can not only appreciate a rich collection of Bulgari’s serpenti creations, but engage in a discussion about the symbolism associated with serpents in both Western and Eastern cultures.

As a common symbol in artistic creations, serpent tends to be given various meanings in different cultural contexts. While the serpent is associated with seductiveness and reproduction in Western culture, its counterpart in Chinese artworks often stands for power, wealth and war. Thus, it’s not surprising to see how the tone of art varies depending on the reading of serpents. At this year’s “SerpentiForm” exhibition in Chengdu, The Sin by Franz von Stuck (1909) is a great example of showing how Stuck as an European artist orchestrates serpent as a literal personification of evilness in his painting. With a nude female figure wrapped by an aggressive serpent standing in the shadow,  The Sin conveys a kind of gloomy mood to its viewers. Chinese artist Yang Mian’s recreation of Nine Dragons from Song Dynasty, on the other hand, shows the worship to power in traditional Chinese society. To make it more interesting, Yang deploys CMYK, a print technique that contains only four basic colors, in his work and encourages viewers to bring their own imaginations to interpret the original classic. Symbolized serpents are also found in pop art and modern sculpture. By absorbing traits of diverse art movements, serpents as symbols have evolved from the product of politics and religion to a complicated reflection of zeitgeists.

Famous for its unique combination of rare colored stones, Bulgari’s jewelry line of Serpenti pieces pays tribute to this skill and adds onto it with evocative representations of the snake. The origin of Serpenti creations can be traced back to a turning point of Bulgari jewelry design at 1940s when the brand’s traditional French school taste, which favors the use of diamonds and platinum polished with geometric facets, was gradually switching to an emerging focus on gold and coils of the Serpenti creations. Afterwards, Bulgari also explored new possibilities by integrating exotic artistic designs from Asia and unconventional materials for high-end luxury like silk and porcelain into its jewelry collection. As it resonates with the spirit of the “SerpentiForm” exhibition, this remarkable adaptability of Bulgari speaks for its international reputation nowadays as a luxury fashion icon.

The New Curiosity Shop by Bvlgari Opens in Rome

Bulgari built the New Curiosity Shop to symbolize creativity in the brand, to challenge and surpass previous set limits, to bring about a contemporary edge to things, and to pay homage to the Old Curiosity Shop that opened in 1905.  The New Curiosity Shop was designed as a concept store by Bulgari in order to restore and honor the once legendary Old Curiosity Shop at Via dei Condotti in Rome.  Bulgari’s founder, Sotirio Bulgari got the name for the shop from a Charles Dickens novel, which was chosen to reestablish the Maison’s visionary outlooks and cultural history.

The shop officially made its launch on January 31st and features wide-range of curiosity from the Italian jeweler.  The historical location became the perfect place to set up a space in which introduces you to many curiosities.  It offers visitors an unforgettable experience that links the past to the future of Bugari and to the direction they’re heading towards.

The interior of the New Curiosity Shop was made to integrate conflicting design elements and details throughout the layout.  The exact purpose of adding contrasting aspects to the store concept was for assimilating dualism into it.  On one side of the shop, you will step into a room with a refreshing ambiance that brings together exquisite wood, fine velvet, and evocative finishes.  However, on another side there would be a room with sublime marble furnishings, luminescent color schemes, and entirely white leather finishes.  To put it simply, the interior design of the New Curiosity Shop serves as the perfect playground for visitors to come in, choose from a wide array of curiosities, have fun and leave with a truly memorable experience.

Bulgari created a couple of limited edition commodities exclusively for the New Curiosity Shop alone; these include pieces such as an all-new version of the Serpenti Twist Your Time and Serpenti Tubogas wrist watch that both come together with a separate pink gold and diamond pavé case.  Furthermore, the party’s not finished just yet as the shop also introduces an exclusive and very beautiful mini jewelry collection called CONDOTTI10, in order to commemorate the grand opening.

Meet London based jewellery designer, Millië Carr. Soon to be fresh from her days at university, the 22-year-old young lady is making a mark for herself in the world of jewellery. Her creativity is somehow different and only equaled by her passionate entrepreneurial drive.

Millië decided to set up her own company by combining her greatest passions: piglets, stones and jewels. The Pink Piglet is a brand-new start-up which offers unique, timeless and luxurious earrings “that tell a story and champion local production”.

I believe the secret to her success is the story behind her earrings. I had the pleasure of meeting Millië in the heart of London City where we talked about her personal style, her life and her deeply energetic pink universe.

How did you first become interested in jewellery design?

“My passion for jewellery and accessories started as a child, when my mother had her own fashion accessory company in the 80s. I guess I’ve always been surrounded by funky pieces lying around the house and naturally grew up to develop an eye for bling and a wicked pair of earrings.

The idea of providing people with a timeless aesthetic has, and always will appeal to me, so that people can express themselves in a powerfully irresistible way through the magic of unique pieces. I love the fact that I can help people feel beautiful.”

What served as the inspiration for your current collection?

“The III Collection presents unusual and rare designs that are truly magical and individual. I was greatly influenced by my trip to India, especially by the artwork and architecture. It was different to what I knew, from the people I met, their fashion, work and what knowledge they gave me. They have such a strong influence for jewellery with stunning colours of semi-precious stones and superb craftsmanship. I was very fortunate to be visiting such beautiful and lavish hotels such as the Oberoi Udaivilas and the Leela Palace on lake Pichola known as ‘Venice of the East’. The whole experience was breath-taking: I became so interested in the Indian artwork and their rich heritage and culture.”

What is behind the name? How did the Pink Piglet come to be?

“I didn’t have to think very hard at all, ‘The Pink Piglet’ was the first name that popped into my head as I am passionate about piglets. When I realised that jewellery is what I wanted to do, it seemed an original and natural choice due to my slight obsession with pigs. My company is an e-boutique after all, a true original, only one in the world and therefore is only small and rather sweet. I thought The Pink Piglet suited the whole look I was aiming for very well. I knew from day one that The Pink Piglet Collection is what I wanted my brand to be called, nothing in this world can change that. The Pink Piglet itself came to be while I was on holiday in Malta last summer with my family. I came to my senses that I only have one more year left at university and then I am on my own and having to find myself a job. I’ve spoken about launching my own collection a few times, but just last August when I was back in London I decided to finally get on with it. I saw an opportunity and I went for it. I knew if I didn’t do it now, I would never do it.”

INTERVIEW WITH MILLIË CARR

How many people are involved in The Pink Piglet?

“Believe it or not, it is just me who manages everything from creative director to wrapping up my earrings and walking down to the post office. Of course, in house with support from my family, I really like to appreciate the power they gave me to start this dream of mine to come true. I’ve started this up while keeping my degree afloat, it’s not the easiest thing. I feel I may need to get a team on board fairly soon as the company is expanding and once I leave university, The Pink Piglet will have my whole devotion.”

How many collections do you realize per year?

“Considering The Pink Piglet Collection only launched 5 months ago, I would have launched three collections since August in March. I’m thinking three-four collections per year but that may change once I’ve left university depending on how I manage my time.”

Do you have any plans to open a boutique store?

“Yes. 100%. That is my dream and I will be over the moon if and when it happens. I would love to have my own boutique store and I am focusing on that as my long-term goal, especially to be based in Soho. That part of London offers so much diversity: the people and the energy in that area, especially Carnaby Street and Covent Garden, it’s all so vibrant and cool.”

INTERVIEW WITH MILLIË CARR

What is your vision for The Pink Piglet?

“I now want to introduce The Pink Piglet Collection worldwide. Considering last month was the 5-month anniversary for my company, I am overwhelmed by the support and positivity from the people around me and of course my customers. If someone said to me 6 months ago The Pink Piglet Collection is going to be featured in the top magazines and you will be interviewed by The Extravagant, I would have laughed in your face. The rate in which my brand is growing keeps me motivated. It’s such a comfortable and reassuring feeling, knowing that something I thrive off and feel deeply passionate about is actually working out.”

What does it mean to you to be a British brand today?

”For me, to be a successful British brand today means creating a visual identity. To build loyalty with the people surrounding myself and my company and of course stay true to my vision. The Pink Piglet is what it is because of love and appreciation that people out there have given it.  My mission is to sell luxurious pieces that tell a story and champion local production. My jewels offer ahead of the curve earrings that are influenced by fine art, travel and artisanal craftwork. Based on the brand ethos of timeless jewels, these are the pieces that should be in your day-to-day jewellery box to stand out amongst the crowd. The exploration of the relationship between design, fashion and these jewels is the ethos that has driven the brand since its inception in 2017.”

INTERVIEW WITH MILLIË CARR

Are you planning any collaborations? If yes, with who?

“I haven’t had any serious thought about collaborating with anyone as of yet. I am excited for what the future holds and the talented creative minds that I cannot wait to meet along the way.”

What are the main features of your jewels?

“Semi-precious stones. I believe in crystal healing of the soul. My earrings consist of a variety of gemstones such as Agate (protection, creativity and harmony), Chalcedony (emotional balance and generosity), Jade (Balance, luck and health),  Druzy (positive self-love- the earrings I am wearing now), Jasper (grounding and stability) and Quartz (Meditation, energy and clarity). Gem-stones have been believed to hold metaphysical properties. They alter our moods and remedy a spectrum of ailments for thousands of years. In fact, a friend of mine bought me this yellow quartz that I have on me at all times, it brings self-confidence and symbolises wisdom, warmth and creative joy.”

INTERVIEW WITH MILLIË CARR

In your opinion, why are jewels so important for women?

“To answer this question, I will use a quote by Dalai Lama ‘We are all visitors on the planet.  We are only here for one hundred years at the very most.  During that period, we must try to do something good, something useful, with our lives.  If you contribute to other people’s happiness, you will find the true meaning of life.’ I believe that a piece of jewellery is not just some ordinary thing that we wear, it’s our personality, attitude, a lot more that a girl carries. Jewels are my ‘go to look’, majority of the time I live in simple black jumpers, floaty trousers or even tracksuit bottoms, but always with an exquisite pair of bling on my earlobes. It is about offering modern women confidence and individuality, regardless of age to feel inspired through my beautifully-crafted jewels and to be treasured and worn with love.”

How the III collection differs from the winter collection?

“It is perhaps slightly rebellious, a bit tongue-in-cheek approach to luxurious jewellery that there is not so much a difference between each collection or preciousness of each earring or gemstone, but the beauty in design and the craftsman of the human hands in unison with the creative mind. I suppose each collection is quite similar in the sense that they are inspired from the Indian artwork that had such an influence on me when visiting India.”

Where can we follow The Pink Piglet?

For my jewels, best to go on Instagram to: @pinkpigletjewellery

To my website: www.thepinkpigletcollection.com

What’s next?

“After university I plan to explore other areas of the world for further inspiration and find more interesting jewels for The Pink Piglet’s future collections.  I became so interested in Indian culture that I will definitely get my calendar out and pick a date to go back in the near future.”

Flawless 163-carat Diamond Necklace Sells at Christies Geneva Auction

For all the taken men, it’s time to step up your game. As Marilyn Monroe says, “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” And one of the biggest diamonds has just been sold!

It all started on the 4th of February, where a 404.2 carat diamond was discovered in eastern Angola, and pronounced to be the 27th largest rough white diamond!

Months were spent examining the rock and its cracks. Diamond expert, Isaac Barhoin, works hard to make it into a flawless perfect stone. After his search was done, the time came to cut it. On the 29th of June, Ben Green, an 80 year old master diamond cutter, started his mission. Several months passed till Green succeeded into turning the rough rock into a 163.41 carat gem.

However, the process was not over. It was now time to transform this exquisite diamond into a piece of jewelry and the month of December was the time to do it.

Brought to the Geneva headquarters of GRISOGONO, Gruosi worked hard to turn “the most beautiful diamond in the world” into an “outside-the-box” piece of jewelry, as he says.

After a year of hard work, and team work between the best of the best, The Art of de GRISOGONO, Creation 1, an emerald and diamond necklace set with a rectangular cut, D color, flawless diamond of 163.41 carats was created. It may be nature’s gift, but without all these artists and experts, this would not have happened.

The necklace consisted of the queen diamond in the middle with a chain made of diamonds and 18 emerald-cut diamonds. The diamond itself is appealing, but with the added emeralds, the green of the stones catches peoples’ eyes even more.

This large diamond was already worthy to make people salivate on its own. Now it became everything worthy, to an extent of being sold for 33 million CHF, equivalent to 33 million USD!

On November 14, 2017 an auction was held by Christie’s in Geneva. This auction, however, was unforgettable for two main reasons. First of all, this one of a kind diamond was being auctioned. Second, the price it was sold for was a world record.

An anonymous buyer was ready to pay 33 million CHF for this piece of jewelry. Whoever he is, his woman should be more than happy!

“’The Apollo and Artemis Diamonds’ will be the stars of our May sale in Geneva – by far the most important pair of earrings ever offered at auction. These exquisite coloured diamonds are enormously rare and each is a wonderful stone in its own right. Together, as a pair of earrings, they are breathtaking. These are diamonds of great distinction, with extraordinary presence, and we are honoured that Sotheby’s has been chosen to bring them to auction in May.” said David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division.

Currently the duo of Apollo & Artemis are on a world tour to hopefully entise possible future owners ahead of the Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels & Noble Jewels auction on the 16th of May.  Having already visited the North America, Europe, and the Middle East; Apollo & Artemis are in the final leg of their journey currently traveling through Asia.
