Where Timeless Design Meets Harmonic Perfection The Beosound Emerge

For those of you who desire a rich and powerful audio experience, few stereos can compete with the design and sound quality of the Beosound Emerge. Designed for Bang & Olufsen by Benjamin Hubert of Design Agency Layer, the Beosound Emerge is a slim compact home speaker well suited for a variety of spaces.

“The vision for Beosound Emerge was to create the slimmest speaker possible that could still deliver full range, ultra-wide sound despite its size through its revolutionary driver configuration. Whether placed on a bookshelf in the bedroom or a tight corner of the kitchen, Beosound Emerge’s slim design allows you to extend your music to a new room or complement an existing speaker in the same area without taking up extra space”, says Christoffer Poulsen, Senior Vice President and Head of Product Management at Bang & Olufsen.

Where Timeless Design Meets Harmonic Perfection The Beosound Emerge

Built to last, the Beosound Emerge can be described as a marriage of noteworthy craftsmanship combined with a superfluous audio experience. The perfect object d’art to decorate the home or office of someone with a passion for design, craftsmanship, and music; the Emerge delights all the senses. The principal design inspiration for the Beosound Emerge was a book to allow for the speaker to look discretely at home on a modern bookshelf. A principle design element of the Emerge are its side panels, which wrap around the speaker like the boards of a book.

Incorporating warm materials inspired by modern interior decor was a core philosophy behind the Beosound Emerge’s design. With a range of material options including oak wood, woven Kvadrat, pearl blated aluminum, and black anthracite among others, the use of high quality materials is a hallmark of Bang & Olufsen’s product vision. This fundamental approach is also quite apparent in the way the Beosound Emerge is controlled. Located on top of the device is an interface with soft touch activated buttons; here the user can control the volume through a sensory circular interaction or easily pause their music or change the track

Where Timeless Design Meets Harmonic Perfection The Beosound Emerge

“As a studio, we like to build long-term partnerships with the brands we work with and Beosound Emerge is our second collaboration with Bang & Olufsen. The super slim speaker has been designed to minimise the physical footprint and maximise the audio output as a response to the real estate in people’s homes being at an unprecedented premium. At LAYER, we believe that technology should enable happiness but doesn’t necessarily need to be an expression in its own right, so it was equally important for us to create a new architectural format with a strong sculptural sensibility and a more domestic material palette that will stand out in the saturated audio market while seamlessly fitting into the home”, says Benjamin Hubert, founder of LAYER.

The Beosound Emerge also benefits from a host of multi-room functionalities with a built-in microphone for voice control along with the ability to support Apple Airplay 2. One of the great appeals of the device is that its built to last. Bang & Olufsen equipped the Beosound Emerge with a replaceable connectivity module. This advancement allows for the already well-equipped speaker to be updated with physical hardware advancements to ensure the product’s longevity. Available internationally as of this Fall, the Beosound Emerge is priced
from 599 Euros.

Discovering ASKA With Guy & Maki Kaplinsky: The Innovators of The Flying Car of The Future

Have you ever dreamed of owning a flying car? Well, Los Altos, California based start up ASKA is working on bringing that dream to life. Founded by husband and wife duo, Guy & Maki Kaplinsky, ASKA is working hard to deliver their flying cars to customers by 2026. Priced from $789,000 USD, The ASKA™ is defined as ‘an electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) drive and fly vehicle.’ The thought behind the idea is a solution for individuals who need to work in the city, but have the flexibility to live in a more remote suburb. The Aska is said to allow owners to reside around 100 miles from an urban area and travel ‘into the city in 30 minutes or less!’ Guy Kaplinsky believes this will allow individuals to enjoy nature and affordable housing, while subsequently improving their quality of life.

“It’s taking people to the next level of flying,” says Guy. “A lot of people came from the automotive industry because they want to be in the air, but they like the convenience of the car. It’s like a project for you. You have to go to the airport, park your car, go fly, and then when you land you need to arrange another car, [such as] a taxi or go rent a car. It’s okay for the weekend, but [not] if it’s [on] a daily basis, [while] looking for or [going to] work. [It’s fine if] you want to be 10 miles away from your work, but if you want to be 50, 100, [or] 150 miles [away] and still be within 30 [minutes] to 1 hour, that’s the solution. Because you get there, get to your car [and] go someplace that you can takeoff [from]. You can takeoff from wherever a helicopter or an aircraft [can], so if you takeoff vertical it’s taking more energy, but if you go forward on the runway you can save up to 60-70% of the energy.”

“We introduced what we call ‘ASKA on The Fly’,” says Guy. “It’s a time share program so you don’t need to buy. Until now we were collecting pre-order, people want to own that [for] $789,000. There is [a] $5000 pre-order payment which is deposited in an escrow account, and 100% refundable after 1 year, [and] you get the option to receive one share in the company. That is for limited edition, so you can customize the interior and exterior. [There] is a new program where people just pre-order and say they want it from Tuesday to Wednesday, and you buy 50 hours, 20 hours, 250 hours a year and we maintain that for you. You book ASKA, and get the vehicle .”

Although a pilots license is required to operate the ASKA, requisite training for customers is included in the base price. Customization is also an important element at ASKA, clients will be able to configure their own personalized interior as well as selecting exterior colors. For those who are hesitant to commit to a nearly $800,000 full purchase can enjoy ASKA’s new timeshare/partial ownership service that makes the vehicle available to a wider audience of potential users. ASKA On The Fly is said to become the future online platform for summoning your ASKA through a web based portal if you decide to opt for partial ownership. A hallmark of this service will be the ability to access 24 hour booking data. Through this platform customers will be able to either pick up the vehicle at a central location or have it delivered to their home via VIP service. Another highlight of partial ownership is that a service team takes care of both maintenance and cleaning to ensure that your ASKA is always ready for use.

“We target consumers,” states Maki. “Through various designs, we have the same mission to drive, to fly, vertical takeoff and landing and short takeoff and landing. ASKA can make Air Mobility possible without relying on new infrastructure. ASKA can use the existing landing strips, parking spots, charging stations and gasoline stations; and that is how we are different from other eVTOLs. We are very excited to introduce ASKA to the luxury area of aircraft and cars. Hopefully this is going to be an exciting addition to their collection.”

“Its [weight] is about 5,000 pounds, and can fly up to 250 miles with the weight of 4 passengers,” says Guy. And if with less people [you can have a greater range. Also, the selection of the batteries is the key issue for us to select the batteries that [are] very safe. So we went more into the direction of existing batteries that we know are safe to use. We don’t want to stress the batteries, [which] is why we are not yet ready for full electric because of safety issues. Because it’s [for] a consumer, you need a private pilot license, you need to learn 40 hours training and the cost for the training is included in the price. It’s very easy to fly, just like [piloting] a drone.”

An air mobility learning center is a cornerstone element of ASKA show room in Los Altos, at this location events are held through out the year for those who have joined the Founder’s Club by placing a $5,000 deposit for their future ASKA. Founders Club members meet every 3-5 months either at the showroom or online to learn about updates around the air mobility industry. According to ASKA, the deposit is held in an escrow account and becomes refundable after one year.

The Cutting Edge of Yacht Charter With Ellie Malouf

Not many yacht charter firms can get you on a yacht in a matter of hours, however, one of those few organizations is a family-owned firm based in Sydney, Australia. Founded by the Malouf family, Ahoy Club is meant to bring together the best of service and convenience in a club-like atmosphere. On the origin of Ahoy Club’s name, COO Ellie Malouf states “family table talk. 2015 was probably the inception of Ahoy Club and then we launched in 2018. It was really just family table talk, we started saying “Ahoy” one day and we wanted a ‘clubby feel’ so that when customers chartered with us [they’d] feel a sense of trust.”

Often compared to app-based ride-hailing services because of their similarities in convenience, Ahoy Club offers clients a special touch around service. From dining preferences to your ideal toothpaste color, Ahoy Club exceeds the demands of even the most discerning charter guests. To learn more about Ahoy Club, we caught up with the charming Ellie Malouf during Australia’s current lockdown to discuss how Ahoy Club is bringing yacht charter into the 21st century.

For those of us who are not already familiar, can you tell us a little about Ahoy Club and how your service is different from a typical charter company?

“Ahoy Club is an online marketplace for yachts, so we offer 4,000 yachts for charter all around the world. I guess there [are] three core elements that make us stand out. So, [the] first thing is our [wide] selection, on our platform you can search and refine 4,000 crewed yachts of any style and price, whether that be a day charter in Miami or a sailing yacht [in Sydney] on Sunday, or a superyacht in the Mediterranean. If it floats it’s probably on our platform. Before Ahoy Club there was no global marketplace to find and book yachts online. Our second point of difference is our customer service, as a family we’ve owned and chartered yachts for decades and one of the main reasons we started Ahoy Club was that we thought there was a lot to be desired in the customer service [part] of the industry. I think the third point of differentiation is that we have the best prices in the industry. Being a global technology platform means that we can offer more competitive rates.”

With Ahoy Club, being a family business, is there a certain place you trace your family’s passion for the ocean to?

“It definitely all started on Sydney Harbor. [Having been] born and raised here it’s hard not to develop a love for the ocean when you’re surrounded by it. My earliest memories are really just spending weekends on Sydney Harbor with the family, [anchored] on the harbor, but we now spend a few weeks each year on the Med, Capri is definitely a family favorite.”

Have you found that your digital services attract a younger or better-informed charter client?

“So we’ve found that our digital services attract both millennial charterers and seasoned charterers. Our team provides a very high touch service from start to finish. So when [you] combine this with our tech it makes the whole process faster, easier, and more fun. We believe in the [ability] to book a charter on the same day with us, whereas typically that would take weeks. I think a great example of this was [when] a few years ago I had a client staying in Ibiza and he was staying at a hotel and not enjoying his experience there at all. So, I got a call saying “I need to get on a yacht today, for the next week.” And by the time he’d packed up his belongings and got a taxi to the marina, we’d found him a yacht and they were sipping on a cocktail on the sundeck two hours later.”

Ahoy Club has been called many things including the Uber of luxury yacht charter, with that said, what do you personally believe sets you apart?

Like Uber, we think of ourselves as a tech company, so we’ve invested a lot of time and effort to create a great digital experience for our customers. Probably unlike Uber we have an extremely high focus on customer service, as I’ve mentioned in creating those customer experiences. You know you’ll never have a yacht cancelling at the last minute with Ahoy Club. So we are very similar in some ways, but there is an important balance being such a luxury product to have the service coupled with tech is probably the most important.”

Please tell us about Ahoy Day; has the ability to charter a yacht for one day or just one hour, opened the market to a new demographic of yachting enthusiasts?

“Yeah definitely, you can book day charters on our website instantly, so you can book and pay online which has opened up our market, especially to [the] corporate market, Christmas parties, and end of year celebrations in cities with a great harbor. This is [especially popular] in Sydney, Miami, and Monaco. It’s also been [popular] for friends just wanting to have a fun day out. It’s accessible to any type of group, so we have yachts for any type of occasion. Our range is from about 2,000 dollars for a day [or] a couple of hours, [up to] our biggest yacht, one on the platform [that’s] three million euros a week. We have specialists in each range to make sure that you’re getting the right service. What we’ve found is important is you’ve got the customer who charters the yacht for a day and then next year they want to charter for a weekend, and after that they want to go overseas for a week. We want to be that one stop shop for the customers.”

What do you believe is the key to your success in the industry?

“We believe success all comes back to providing the best customer experience. We deliver this through our focus on three things, which are the greatest selection of yachts globally, providing excellent customer service, and for the best possible price.”

What unique concierge services does Ahoy Club offer?

“Once you a book a charter with Ahoy Club the fun really begins. We’ve got an online booking platform that guests can use to build [a set of] preferences, everyone in the group can detail what they want to do, eat, and drink on the charter. If [charter guests] have any restaurant requests or really any land excursion requests we will handle all of that on our side. So that’s where our customer service team comes in; guests tell us everything they want to do, but we hold their hand every step of the way to make sure that we get all of that information. [I mean] we have people that have requested a [certain] color of toothpaste. Any kind of request that you have, we will deliver on. We also have a fantastic interactive itinerary builder; which we put a lot of effort into it. [For example] our team before each season will fly around and try the restaurants, so we can advise on the best ones to see this season.”

What’s next for Ahoy Club?

“Global expansion; we currently have offices in Australia and France, [and] soon we’ll be opening offices in the U.S. [where] we have some reps on the ground there already. We’re looking elsewhere across the world to strengthen our presence in new and exciting charter markets.”

Where can we follow you?

“On Instagram we have Ahoy.Club that’s our global account and you can also create a free account on ahoycub.com if you want to get special offers, the latest news, and yachts available for charter around the world.”

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion

We all want to look good in the colder weather as we go to work or to enjoy our leisure time. Sultry suits for the office and classic killer coats are both sexy and practical. Argyle knitwear is officially back in favour as jumpers and cardigans matched with a chic skirt or classic trousers.

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - Floral Green Dress

For something more colourful, try jungle prints on beaded cocktail dresses, with bold coloured accessories to break the look, perfect if going to a party to celebrate an occasion. Versace has reimagined its infamous jungle-print gown for a look that will turn heads.

Jewellery

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - Diamond Ring

Choose long, glittering earrings and in bold colours. Necklaces are also bold in colour, incorporating brand signatures and logos and tiny initials created from tiny gems. Classic jewellery styles never go out of fashion, which makes them and can end up creating a wonderful heirloom piece.

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - Emerald Green Coloured Diamond Necklace

Diamonds will forever be a girl’s best friend and are a perfect gift for your beloved on any occasion. While the diamond anniversary is achieved after 60 years of togetherness, you could combine this with modern anniversary gifts by year that are arranged by colour.  Combine diamonds with red for your second anniversary, blue for your tenth, emerald green for your twentieth and an entire range of colours for all the following years.

New sneakers

Many of the big-name fashion houses have been working in collaboration with other artists to create some amazing shoes. For someone who always wears sneakers, gift a pair in the season’s colours of bold orange and blue. If being eco-friendly is a focus for gift-giving, there are all-wool sneakers that are lightweight and breathable, cool in the heat, warm in the cold, and they are also machine-washable and odour-resistant, making them great for all ages as they are available in sizes for children as well as for an adult.

Practical bag

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - Tote Bag

The age of the tiny bag, no bigger than something that can carry just a phone, has come to an end. All the fashion houses have launched oversized totes, hobo bags and clutches. Consider a fluorescent yellow clutch with studs or a large white tote. A circular macramé-style bag, a bright blue bucket bag or bags over-the-top with feathers and fluff can be found everywhere, with classic black bags for those who like the more formal look. Choose a bag in the new season colours of bright tangerine orange and blue.

Carry-on travel bag with charger

Fashionable Gifts for Any Occasion - bag

Mix fashion with practicality with a carry-on bag that incorporates a removable battery that can charge up your devices whilst you are on the road or have no access to an outlet. Choose from a classic glossy black, polycarbonate shell, or a more colourful rose or silver colour. For something with a focus on travellers who want their clothes to stay neat while on the go, select a suitcase with built-in shelves that pop up to provide space for housing all your clothes and travel accessories.

The Bluetooth Audio Sunglasses

Be the height of fashion with hi-tech sunglasses that connect to Bluetooth and play music near your ears without anyone else hearing what you are playing. Listening via bone conduction helps save your ears from becoming sore from wearing earbuds.  Audio sunglasses come in a range of styles, colours and lens shades, or in a unisex style that suits all face shapes.

The Apple Watch Series 5

Bang & Olufsen Releases The BeoVision Eclipse Wood Edition

Bang & Olufsen, which was founded in 1925 by the two audio reproduction innovators Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen, have now created yet another revolutionary product for the audio and motion picture industries with the release of the BeoVision Eclipse Wood Edition: “the latest variant of the world’s best sounding TV.”  Utilizing the latest 4K HDR OLED screen technology, the BeoVision Eclipse Wood Edition features an elegant handmade speaker cover in oak, which gives off a sophisticated and warmhearted feeling to the ambiance of any kind of home.

Designed by award-winning Torsten Valeur – David Lewis Designers, the new BeoVision Eclipse Wood Edition offers stunning oak to complement its slender frame and sleek aluminum components; as it also simultaneously pays homage to Bang & Olufsen’s time-honored use of wood elements in their products.  Senior Concept Lead from Bang & Olufsen Kresten Bjørn Krab-Bjerre agrees with this statement as he later goes on saying that: “We feel obliged to keep innovating the use of a material that has played an integral part in our products since 1925. Oak is a material that patinates beautifully, and by adding this option to our flagship TV we reinforce our commitment to provide people with the flexibility to match our designs to their personal interior style.

Ever since the company was started, it has turned into a symbol of the highest grade performance and the forefront of design; a name that fully commits to its history in traditional craftsmanship and highly advanced tech R&D.  Long-standing as one of the most prominent domestic technology innovators of our time, Bang & Olufsen has been rapidly expanding their reaches by integrating its audio and video solutions, which were primarily utilized at home, to the hospitality and automotive industries.  For example, Bang & Olufsen’s latest products that relate to media and audio functions used in your home can now be seen in the car while on the go.

Merging the best of two worlds

The BeoVision Eclipse incorporates Bang & Olufsen’s remarkable design, high-quality craftsmanship and impressive acoustic capabilities together with LG Electronics’ technological expertise on OLED TV mechanics, which encompassed their webOS and 4K video processing capabilities.  Combined with a 450 watt 3-channel SoundCentre, the TV features both stereo performance and center channel control, which makes it superior to most integrated solutions and soundbars presently available in the market.  Furthermore, the BeoVision Eclipse also includes music streaming services and built-in internet radio, which alone make it a music system in a class of its own.

The BeoVision Eclipse comes with a motorized floor stand underneath.  Just a press of a button, and the TV is able to move across the floor so silently that it looks as if it is hovering towards your direction.  The stand can even turn 90 degrees to either side with a touch of a button, which allows for a more enjoyable viewing experience and a good way for it to blend with the room’s decor.  Additionally, besides having the motorized floor stand, BeoVision Eclipse can be mounted on the wall with a motorized manual bracket.

The BeoVision Eclipse Wood Edition is currently available in two different sizes.  The first is the 55” version that retails for a suggested price of DKK 68,995 / USD 10,995 / EUR 9,095 / GBP 8,195.  The other is the 65” version, which has a suggested retail price of DKK 95,995 / USD 15,995 / EUR 12,795 / GBP 11,495.  In addition, owners of the BeoVision Eclipse can also purchase a separate speaker cover for a proposed retail price of DKK 7,595 / USD 1,295 / EUR 995 / GBP 895.

The brand new BeoVision Eclipse Wood Edition as well as the separate speaker cover will be available for customers in any Bang & Olufsen store worldwide, starting from the beginning of April 2018.  However, aluminium and fabric covers for BeoVision Eclipse are currently available at Bang & Olufsen stores.

Tesla Motors will soon be producing an all new Roadster for 2020, which based on the announced specifications, should give the best lot of supercars a good run for their money.  The launch of the new Roadster will also go hand in hand to fulfill Tesla Chief Executive, Elon Musk’s dream of creating the best cars in the world, quoted as saying “the point of this is to give the hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars.”

Not long after Mr. Musk presented his groundbreaking electric semi-truck; an all new super sports car was shown on stage to steal the spotlight.  Tesla claims the new roadster will go from not to sixty in under two seconds, and complete a quarter mile in just under nine. An exact top speed has not yet been announced, though, 250 miles per hour is a conservative estimate, easily placing the Roadster among today’s highly coveted Hyper Cars.  Yet, the Roadster’s most unique feature is that it will seat four individuals in relative comfort. Cargo room will be plentiful in this convertible, and a 620 mile range powered by a 200-kilowatt hour battery pack is nothing short of incredible.  A starting price of $200,000 USD also makes for class leading value, feel free to reserve yours for a deposit of $50,000 right now.

The original Tesla Roadster was produced from 2008-2012, and was instrumental in the fact that it was the first highway legal all-electric vehicle powered by a lithium ion battery.  The original roadster was also the first all-electric vehicle to travel over 200 miles on a single charge.  Production figures were just under 2,500, and were most popular in continental Europe.

The Future of Electric Flight: Lilium

As countless organizations work toward the future of electric powered, environmentally friendly mobility, one Munich based firm seems to be leading the world in the future of electric flight.  Lilium has been backed by several major investment firms including former Twitter CEO, Evan Williams’ Obvious Ventures.  With total funding now exceeding $100 million dollars, after a recent round adding $90M to their total raised capital, it is looking increasingly likely that Lilium just may become the world leader in this genre.

Daniel Wiegand, Lilium co-founder and CEO said: “This investment is a tremendously important step for Lilium as it enables us to make the five-seat jet a reality. This is the next stage in our rapid evolution from an idea to the production of a commercially successful aircraft that will revolutionise the way we travel in and around the world’s cities. It makes Lilium one of the best funded electric aircraft projects in the world. Our backers recognise that Lilium’s innovative eVTOL technology puts us in the lead in this exciting new industry, with no other company promising the economy, speed, range and low-noise levels of the Lilium Jet.

“We are continuing to recruit the very brightest and best global talent in aeronautical engineering, physics, electric propulsion and computer science to join us on this extraordinary aviation journey where the only limits are the laws of physics.”

Lilium was founded in 2015 by Wiegand and his associates Sebastian Born, Matthias Meiner and Patrick Nathen, during their studies at the Technical University of Munich.  In under two years, the founders vision has gone on to employ more than 70 engineers to develop an unrivaled fully electric vertical take off and landing Jet.  Lilium has already successfully test flown their fully autonomous 5 seat prototype, which has exhibted exceptional maneuverability and performance.

Although, the aircraft’s electric engines function similar to a conventional jet’s engines, their are some significant differences including the fact that the compressor fan is powered by an electric motor, rather than a typical petrol turbine, making for ultra quiet travel. The change over from fuel to electricity also makes for considerably more economical running costs compared to a conventional jet.  Lilium expects this fact to enable their product to compete with not only other planes, but all areas of transportation.

The Lilium Jet is expected to travel at a top speed of 300kmph for up-to one hour on just a single charge.  This allows for a 19 KM flight from Manhattan to JFK in just five minutes, at a cost which is estimated to be less than taxi fare.

MB&F’s nautically inspired Horological Innovation

Swiss watch brand Maximilian Büsser and Friends, also known as MB&F, teamed up with Swiss high-end clock manufacturer L’Epée 1839 to create yet another horological masterpiece.  The result of this collaboration, which marks their seventh partnership together, is the new Octopod desk clock (35,000CHF).  MB&F’s latest innovation was inspired by key aspects of an octopus such as its eight integrated legs as well as a spherical “head” that harbors its intricate clockwork complications and “face” displaying the time of day.

This nautically inspired timepiece shelters a manual wound movement that extends an 8-day power reserve from only a single barrel running at 18,000 vibrations per hour.  Evocative of the Ulysse Nardin Freak, the escapement of the Octopod braces onto the minute hand; headlining an extremely unique feature to the piece.

The Octopod is actually not the first sea inspired innovation from Max Büsser’s firm that centralizes on oceanic life, but the second consecutive timepiece they have produced.  MB&F released the acclaimed HM7 Aquapod, a wrist watch sporting a jellyfish-inspired figuration and external diver’s-style bezel, as their first ever nautically influenced timepiece.

The unique nautical design of the Octopod does not merely conclude at its cephalopod contour.  The head of the desk clock relates to the device that holds the ship’s gyroscope in place.  This bears a similar resemblance to how the ship’s chronometers were originally like in the past, which acquiesces them to concatenate in benefit of the ship’s movement.

MB&F’s new aquatic desk clock received its transparent bubble evoking recollection of the bathysphere from James Cameron’s The Abyss; an 1989 American science fiction film.  Because the Swiss watch brand mainly aimed their attention on robots and outer space for inspiration on their timepieces, MB&F are changing their heading and focusing on adapting a far more expansive array of nautically inspired timepieces in the years to come.

The octopod desk clock will be in a limited production of only 150 examples, which include 50 with legs in palladium, 50 in blue, and 50 in black PVD.
