Why You Should Visit Bali in 2020: Asia’s Crown Jewel

Bali is already welcoming holiday makers due to the surprisingly fair weather quite early in the year. Perhaps this could be the best time to visit the archipelago’s crown jewel, as thousands of people do every year. Anytime starting today all the way to June or July is a great time to visit.

Still not sure about vacationing in Bali? Perhaps you have not heard or seen what this land has to offer. From swimming with the manta rays to seeing the last known dragon lizard in the wild, bird watching to snorkeling in the surrounding beaches, partying in the sand to exotic massage treatments. These and many other things make Bali a top-rated destination in South East Asia.

Five Reasons to Vacation in Bali This Season:

Bali Is South East Asia’s Most Visited Destination

There are several advantages to visiting an already established and popular destination. Bali welcomes thousands of vacationers every year with a majority coming from Europe and Australia. It is to Asia what the Caribbean is to the Americas, albeit with more cost-effective rates.

Being a mature vacationing destination, Bali has no shortage of amenities and fun adventures to enjoy. The local economy is entirely driven by the tourism industry which is always good for those looking for memorable vacations. You will have tons of activities to do every day and unlimited places to see.

Endless Sandy Beaches – Both Unique and Idyllic

Did you know that there are only two places on earth where you can find pink sand beaches, and one of them is found in Bali? That aside, Bali is known for its endless sandy beaches perfect for sunbathers, swimmers and surfers. From the world famous Kuta and Nusa Dua to the exclusive and idyllic sands of Jimbaran and Canggu.

Most of the beaches in Bali are lined with world class resorts from end to end. Some are perched atop cliffs offering ocean views that are simply out of this world, while others boast gothic temples as their backdrop. In Komodo, an island located near Bali, adventure seekers will be given the opportunity to swim with manta rays and other exotic fish. For those looking for an exciting experience while vacationing in Bali, Komodo is easily accessible via a bali cruise tour by Ayana.

Amazing Nightlife

Are you looking for fun and night parties in the sand? Much of South East Asia is quite conservative aside from Bali. For the fun and nighttime adventures, Kuta is where all the tourists and locals meet. A loud BBQ and fish party in the sand or night out in any of the spots around town makes for an unforgettable vacation.

Amazing Geology and Gothic Hindu Temples to Explore

Unknown to many, Bali and much of the archipelago is inundated with wonderful geological wonders. There are secret canyons to explore, wonderfully formed hills and mountains to climb, and picturesque sea features to see across the islands.

As if that is not enough, Bali also has a fair share of gothic temples to visit while on tour. The Uluwatu Temple welcomes thousands of visitors each year while other smaller temples will make for a wonderful and memorable spiritual journey. The western side of Bali, otherwise known as Jembrena, is home to some of the most amazing Hindu temples on earth.

While Bali remains predominantly Hindu, travelling inland reveals another side of Bali that most people wouldn’t know existed. Here, you will find beautifully built Christian churches in true Balinese fashion. The gothic churches and shrines of Blimbingsari are worth visiting as you move further inland towards West Bali national park.

Hiking in The Mountains of Bali

Bali is not just about the beaches and island cruises; it’s also known for its hiking adventures. In the dry season, visitors can go hiking in the forest around the island and see the flora and fauna that makes this island destination so popular. Hiking to the top of mount Batur and seeing the sun setting in the distance is an experience of a lifetime.

Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc Celebrates its 150th Birthday

For many among us a holiday on the Cote D’Azur is not complete without a visit to the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc. The famed seaside hotel prominently situated on Cap D’Antibes is celebrating 150 years of catering to aristocrats, tycoons, and celebrities this year. We could write many things to describe Hotel du Cap, however I think F. Scott Fitzgerald described it best in Tender is the Night, “On the pleasant shore of the French Riviera, halfway between Marseille and the Italian border, stands a large, proud, rose-coloured hotel. Deferential palms cool its flushed façade, and before it stretches a short dazzling beach. Lately it has become a summer resort of notable and fashionable people”.

The origins of the hotel begin in the second half of the 19th century, when publisher Hyppolite de Villemessant, whose claim to fame was founding Le Figaro, set out to create, Villa Soleil, a place of pleasure and peace for creative types. Sounds a lot like today’s Soho House, doesn’t it? Although, de Villemessant’s dream of Villa Soleil was never realized due to financial constraints, his mission was carried on by Count Paul de Fersen, former colonel of the Russian imperial army. In 1863, as Russian tourists began to develop an affinity for the French Riviera, de Fersen set about acquiring significant land holdings on Cap d’Antibes. But unfortunately all this effort fell into uncertainty when de Fersen fell ill of tuberculosis and died in 1865.

Fortunately de Fersen’s project was carried forward by his brother-in-law, Alexis de Pletscheyeff. And on the 26th of February 1870, de Pletscheyeff opened the doors to the Grand Hotel du Cap. The reputation of the hotel grew over the years, however it was the beginning of the 20th century that marked a turning point for the property’s association with the most ‘upscale guests’.

In 1914, the hotel added its renowned saltwater swimming pool beside the Eden-Roc pavillion. At this time the Eden-Roc pavillion was being used as the Grand Hotel du Cap’s teahouse, a place often visited by “monarchs, maharajas, businessmen and artists living in Cap d’Antibes.” In the years that followed the Grand Hotel du Cap became the summer playground of the world’s elite. In the 1920s Americans frequented the French Riviera in ever growing numbers, most notable among them were Gerald and Sara Murphy. The Murphy’s who took refuge at the Grand Hotel du Cap were famed for their association with the lost generation.

The 1930s were a magical era for the Hotel. Luminaries such as Fitzgerald, Hemingway, and Edward VIII enjoyed the newly renovated Eden Roc pavilion, which was converted from a teahouse to a restaurant. It was in the 30s that Fitzgerald documented his long stays at the hotel in Tender is the Night and artist Marc Chagall brought his creativity to life on paper from the hotel’s cabanas. Edward VIII and the future Duchess of Windsor were reputedly such loyal guests that the Grand Hotel du Cap’s manager André Sella would personally greet them both at the Antibes station. The Duke & Duchess of Windsor were so fond of the hotel that they took up permanent residence at the nearby Villa de la Croe.

The 1930s were followed by several depressing years. During the second world war, Eden-Roc pavilion suffered major damage due to U.S. Navy strikes on the property in their battle against German forces. Following American occupation, the hotel was converted into a military hospital. Allied troops remained stationed at the Grand Hotel du Cap for three years and contributed to the hotel’s restoration prior to their withdrawal.

From the 1950s to the 1970s the Grand Hotel du Cap flourished and developed its modern reputation. In the 1960s, the hotel’s owner, André Sella, was looking to sell the property to someone that embodied the passion to carry on his family’s tradition. One of Sella’s regular guests, Mr. von Boch of porcelain maker Villeroy & Boch, advised his friend Rudolf-August Oetker to purchase the property, as Rudolf and his wife Maja fell in love with the Grand Hotel du Cap years earlier while sailing the Riviera. In 1969 the Oetkers acquired the hotel and began several years of restoration to bring the property up to modern standards.

One of the most noteworthy elements of the restoration and updating work was the transformation of the Eden Roc pavilion, which was then divided into two spaces a teahouse dubbed La Rotonde and an outdoor dining area. The restaurant, which had been operating under a tent, was converted into an indoor dining room and appropriately renamed the Eden-Roc Restaurant. In 1987 Hotel Grand du Cap was renamed, the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc. Well known today as one of the most desirable venues during the annual Cannes film festival, the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc continues to inspire vision of a glamorous summer on the Cote d’Azur.

The Napoleon III style Hotel du Cap Eden Roc is situated on the tip of Cap d’Antibes in a private 22.5 acre park, just a short drive from Cannes or Nice. A particular highlight of the Juan les Pins neighborhood are the regions fragrant pine trees, which just so happen to line the alley leading from the hotel to the Eden-Roc pavilion. The main Napoleon III building boasts 67 rooms, whereas the Eden-Roc Pavilion and Les Deux Fontaines offer an additional 50 units of accommodation. Suites at the Eden Roc Pavilion are well regarded as a celebrity favorite, having played host to “Madonna, Sharon Stone, Barbra Streisand, Robert Redford, [and] Steven Spielberg”. The most sumptuous accommodations at the hotel include Villa Eleana and Villa Les Cèdres, each offering 3 bedrooms and bathrooms as well as a plethora of other amenities. Aside from excellent rooms and suites, the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc offers guests a long list of dining and spa amenities, among much more.

When experiencing the joys of traveling across the world, you can’t possibly forget the breathtaking white sandy beaches of the Caribbean or the tranquil, yet sensational resorts that play host there. Although there are many places in the Caribbean that offer you a blend of adventure and relaxation, Key West stands out in particular. Accessible through the use of a series of bridges and just 90 miles away from the mainland, Key West is a smart choice for north and south Americans alike. Situated in the Florida Keys, on the Southern tip of Florida, United States, Little Palm Island Resort and Spa features comfortable accommodations, breathtaking views and a wide range of fun activities, such as fishing the reef.

Departure and Arrival

The resort is a mere 30-minute ride away from the Key West International Airport, so you are not going to have any difficulty arriving there. If you contact the Little Palm Island Resort, they can assign a special driver to take you to and from the island. However, if you missed the ferry, you don’t have to worry as there is a boat that leaves for the island every hour. As soon as you set foot on the island, you will be greeted by a friendly staff member, which will provide you with a brief tour of the resort.

Sammy Island Grand Living Room

A focal point of the resort is their fine selection of accommodation, which places emphasis on providing stunning views of the island’s natural beauty. You can either get a hotel room for yourself with a seaside view or, if you are traveling with your family, rent your own private bungalow. These bungalows are introduced with special features, such as bamboo showers, views for sunset and sunrise, and the best view of the island.

One of our favorite aspects of Little Palm Island Resort & Spa is that there is a huge variety of activities that you can take part in, such as deep sea diving, sailing, kiteboarding, helicopter rides, skydiving, fishing, and much more. If you want to spend some time in the sea, you can rent out a motor boat and spend some quality time with your family, while enjoying the cool ocean breeze. Additionally, private fishing companies offer a range of activities nearby in Key West.

Spa and Dining

Last, but certainly not least, their spa is one of the hotel’s best features as there is nothing better than feeling relaxed on your holiday. You should opt for a hot stone massage because it is the best experience for couples. And of course, as you will be spending a vacation on the island, beautiful views are one thing, and food is another. However, you will not be disappointed with the fine Cuban cuisine served on this menu, which can be enjoy by the beach and under the starry sky.

Want to get away from it all? Try Big Sur’s Post Ranch Inn

Do you yearn for a trip away from it all? Do you desire endless ocean views? A luxury escape among the Redwood trees? Well, if you answered yes to any of those questions, you may find yourself in need of visiting Post Ranch Inn located in Big Sur, California. Situated on a hilltop over 1,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean, this retreat is one of the world’s most spectacular hidden gems.

For those who are yet to be acquainted with Big Sur, let me give you a quick overview. Big Sur, a coastal region of California set between Carmel Highlands and San Simeon, is just a few hours south of San Francisco. Big Sur, which is accessed via Highway One (a motor enthusiasts dream) consists of about 71 miles of jagged coast line where the Santa Lucia Mountains meet the Pacific Ocean. The diverse terrain and presence of immense forests, make Big Sur one of the world’s most spectacular nature getaways with ample access to hiking, beaches, and camping.

Post Ranch Inn, named in honor of the Post family who ranched this rugged piece of California coast, is well regarded as one of the United States’ most premier resorts. Accommodations at the Inn consist of 40 guest rooms and suites; some facing the sea resemble earth homes, while others in the forest feel much like tree houses. Each room at the Inn offers an extraordinarily unique and entirely luxurious experience, whether your room immerses you in the Redwood trees, or you enjoy the Pacific from your private infinity pool. A focus on sustainability is at the heart of Post Ranch Inn’s philosophy, here rooms are decorated in earth tones and feature sustainable materials alongside hand woven textiles crafted by indigenous artisans. Although every room is a design masterpiece, the décor does not distract from Post Ranch’s natural beauty and one of a kind landscape. In all, the Post Ranch Inn offers a selection of 9 different and unique types of guest rooms and suites differing in both size and setting.

The rooms and suites at the Inn are appropriately titled: Cliff Houses, Pacific Suites, Peak Houses, Ocean Houses, Coast House, Tree Houses, Mountain House, and Butterfly Rooms. All of the aforementioned rooms are splendid in their own unique way; however, our personal favorite is the Post House. The Post House offers nearly 2,000 square feet of open living space with a living room, formal dinning room, media room, and plush master bedroom. The Post House’s master bathroom is particularly noteworthy with a rain shower, oversized bathtub, and radiant heated slate flooring. Post House enjoys breathtaking views of the Pacific from it’s 1,300 square foot patio with private jacuzzi.

Organic architecture is one of the highlights of Post Ranch Inn’s green design and 100 acre landscape. A distinct element of the property’s design is the fact that although the structures are strikingly modern, they appear perfectly at home in Big Sur’s wild terrain. This is in part thanks to the use of natural materials which adapt every structure into the nature that surrounds it. Through solar heat and the use of bio-structure architecture, Post Ranch Inn attempts to tread as lightly on their piece of heaven as possible. Another initiative proudly stated by the resort is that “water is pumped on-site and bottled into renewable glass bottles.”

Fine innovative and organic cuisine is a special experience at Post Ranch Inn. The resort’s restaurant, Sierra Mar, serves 3 meals per day to guests, while lunch and dinner are available to the public by reservation. Sierra Mar focuses on ingredients foraged, caught, and harvested in and around Big Sur. Sierra Mar’s bountiful chef’s garden is a special amenity and the menu, which changes daily, can be optionally paired with a selection of wines. Additionally, the 14,000 bottle wine cellar at Sierra Mar has been a recipient of the Wine Spectator’s Grand Award.

Amenities at the Post Ranch Inn are abundant with award winning spa treatments, therapeutically heated basking pools, and the Post Gallery which showcases the work of local fine artists. Invigorating complimentary activities for guests include guided nature hikes, yoga classes, and star gazing using a 12-inch Meade telescope. Star Gazing from Post Ranch Inn is particularly remarkable as a result of the clear atmospheric conditions in Big Sur, which allow for viewing of the rings of Saturn on some occasions.

Jade Pool

If you live in or around either San Francisco or Los Angeles, a drive via Highway 1 is thoroughly recommended. On the other hand, if visiting from elsewhere one can fly into Monterey Airport commercially or the Monterey Jet Center by Charter. From Monterey, one can drive south for about one hour to the resort, however Post Ranch Inn is known to offer the occasional helicopter charter from Monterey airport. When booking your stay at this highly coveted destination, one key consideration to keep in mind is the fact that the resort does not allow guests under 18 or pets.

If you’re truly looking to get away from it all, there are few options that come close to the Post Ranch Inn.

Explore Southeast Asia with Motor Yacht Aqua Blu

Has Covid 19 prevented your quintessential summer Mediterranean yacht charter? If so, you may want to consider a week in South East Asia aboard the 198 foot Aqua Blu. A true expedition vessel, Aqua Blu began life in 1968 as HMS Beagle, a British Naval Explorer before being transformed into a luxury yacht in 2004. Her original namesake was an homage to the Beagle that carried Darwin to the Galapagos.

With extreme travel in her DNA and a magnificent interior honed by designer, Cor D. Rover, Aqua Blu is capable of accommodating up to 30 guests in 15 suites. Currently available for charter by Camper & Nicholsons from just $264,000 per week, Aqua Blu represents one of the finest value to money ratios in the market for those seeking a high volume charter vessel. Aqua Blu’s impressive oceangoing abilities certainly make her worthy of her original name. A 7,000 nautical mile range combined with a crew of 25 and a luxurious combination of indoor and outdoor spaces make Aqua Blu a perfect blend of both utility and luxury.

During your stay aboard Aqua Blu, you and your guests will enjoy an ample main salon which is intimate on its own or grand in scale when opened up to the formal dinning room. A library, television room, and sky lounge bar give guests three distinct choices to end the day with. Aqua Blu’s outdoor areas are spacious to say the least, and her collection of toys are generous with kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, fishing gear and a selection of RIBs.

One of our favorite potential charter itineraries with Aqua Blu is a 5 day luxury experience focusing on the world renowned Komodo National Park. Camper & Nicholson’s sample itinerary begins with an arrival at the Labuan Bajo airport; here an afternoon exploring the village can precede a cruise to Padar, where you and your fellow guests will spend the night. Highlights of Day 2 include exploration of the uninhabited island of Padar, where sheer black cliffs, white beaches, and grassy hills enliven the spirit. Warm clear waters abundant in sea life provide a canvas for swimming, scuba diving, and kayaking.

Day 3 is spent at Nusa Kode following a short cruise from Padar. This leads up to the bay of Rinca, which allows for morning watersports in the most remarkable sapphire waters, accompanied by a visit to the beaches where Komodo dragons roam their natural habitat. Diving and snorkeling with Manta rays from September is a focal point of Day 4, as a day of marine exploration can be brought to an end with fishing outside of the national park’s borders.

The fifth day of itinerary is devoted to Wainilu and Selat Molo. On this final day of exploring the Komodo National Park, you and your companions will be imersed in the beautiful deserted beaches which anchor each side of the Selat Molo strait between Rinca & Flores. The charter ends with a return to Labuan Bajo.

Other exciting C&N featured yacht charter experiences in Indonesia include Bali to Gili and Raja Ampat. With an all inclusive rate of under $300,000 USD with tax paid, and the ability to accommodate over two dozen guests, Aqua Blu certainly represents one of the most fantastic charters available this season.

Situated just around the corner from Place Vendôme, the Hôtel Mansart is where one can truly begin an all-out shopping spree. Located nearby some of the most prestigious boutiques in Paris, the hotel is within walking distance from Charvet, Bulgari, Cartier, Chanel and Gucci, to name just a few. Art is another prominent aspect of the area around Hôtel Mansart as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Musée des Arts et Métiers, the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre Museum and the Rodin Museum can be found in the vicinity. Sitting in the middle of the arts and business district, the Hôtel Mansart is a wonderful choice to stay for those looking to explore the wonders of the City of Paris.

The building which the Hôtel Mansart now occupies was originally built in 1720 by John Law, who was known for inventing the Assignats currency. Famed French Architect Jules-Hardouin Mansart, who was the chief architect of Louis XIV, designed the building. Many of Mr. Mansart’s works are still appreciated today, including his work at the Château de Versailles and the admirable Dôme des Invalides. Furthermore, the Jeweller to the Crown, Alexandre-Gabriel Lemonnier moved in during the Second Empire where he he had a hand in turning Place Vendôme into a district for jewellers. One of the most notable works of Alexandre-Gabriel Lemonnier is Empress Eugénie’s crown, a beautiful piece that is currently on display at the Louvre Museum.

In the later half of the 19th Century, the building transitioned into the hotel it is today. The Hôtel Mansart, now in the possession of Esprit De France, upholds the history of the building by not only naming it after its creator, but also by adding touches throughout that are reminiscent of its former brilliance. The Hôtel Mansart has influences ranging from the 17th century to the 19th century. People say that the jewels in the building during Alexandre-Gabriel Lemonnier’s stay there were secretly stored at the back of the indoor shutters, which remain safeguarded to this day in the hotel suites.

The interior design language of the hotel honours the historical time periods the building has gone through. In conjunction with the stunning interior of the hotel, the vicinity around the building is a haven for shopping, eating and browsing art museums. However, the hotel itself is also has an extensive art collection of approximately 120 pieces. Displayed throughout rooms and various open areas, the art spans many different periods and in the form of paintings, engravings, sculptures and furniture. Even while in the comfort of your own room, guests can revel in the artistry of breathtaking period pieces.

Significant works of art include the Portrait of Eugénie de Montijo and the Portrait of Napoleon III, which are oil paintings done on identical canvases and hold historic meaning to the hotel. Both of these beautiful paintings are exhibited in the same room where the jeweler who made their jewels at the culmination of the 18th century was received.

Additional standout pieces include “Alpheus Pursuing Arethusa“, “Narcissus Reflected in a Fountain” and “The Chariot of Bacchus” that make up mythological scenes which are placed near everyday scenes like “Softly Sleeping“, “The Good Mother“, “The Kiss”  and “Trying on a Corset” in a harmonious setting.

The hotel’s large collection of art spans ceaselessly throughout, as beautiful pieces of art greet you at even the simplest of times. Located amidst a flight of stairs in the hall is a piece named “Spirit of France” that was sculptured by Georges Jeanclos. The artist, who is highly regarded as one of the best sculptors at the end of the 20th century, had created this sculpture expressly for Hôtel Mansart. Within the breakfast room is a unique work, a ‘discrete portrait of Mansart’ (pictured above) that signifies the deep connection between the building of the past to the hotel of today.

When staying at the Hôtel Mansart the morning must always begin with an ambrosial breakfast to inspirit yourself for an exciting day of wandering the city’s beloved attractions. After entering the breakfast room, you are welcomed by period stained-glass windows, which only provides to highlight the hot and cold buffet tables in the centre of the room.

The scrumptious breakfast is served along Bernardaud porcelaine in the Esprit de France colours.

Situated on the first floor, the bar offers guests an enticing list of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. While room Mansart offers approximately 50 square metres of space (accommodating 3 guests) with high ceilings and additional views of Place Vendôme, the 28 to 38 square metre room Vendôme (accommodating 2 guests) takes you back in time with 17th century French furnishings.
