The Super Yacht Concept That Hovers Above The Water

Designer Jonathan Schwinge has created a conceptual super yacht named Tetra with a pyramid-shaped body that’s designed to lift itself above the water at high speeds.  This futuristic yacht gets its name Tetra from its unconventional tetrahedron shape, making its appearance unlike any other yacht concept thus far.

The yachts hovering like presence would be formed by a “hydrofoil small waterplane area ship” a (HYSWAS) hull.  Hydrofoil vessels have hulls fitted with shaped vanes (commonly called foils) underneath, which brings the hull out of the water at travelling speed, allowing the vessel to move faster by reducing drag on the waters surface.  Jonathan Schwinge said “The design is instigated by the re-thinking of the form, superstructure and propulsion of the modern superyacht into a radically simple enclosure and an elevated mode of travel above the water line.”

Utilizing the same fundamentals, the Tetra would travel using three hulls on its underside at low speeds.  Once it picks up momentum, a torpedo-shaped strut would expand downwards – to help in bringing the yacht out of the water using its rotating side-mounted adjustable foils.  “The concept design of this HYSWAS craft is based upon an existing hull design that has been developed by several companies, notably the Maritime Applied Physics Corporation in America, and has been proven by their technology demonstrator – The Quest – in 1995,” said Schwinge.

The yacht could provide a smoother ride in stormy ocean conditions when its out of the water, according to the designer.  When docked, portions of Tetra’s three sides would fold down to become enlarged deck areas and the horizontal panels could emerge overhead to provide sun shades.

The yacht would use Carbon Fibre and stainless steel for the superstructure making it lighter and giving it more strength compared to most traditional yachts, which have heavy and difficult to maneuver bodies.  The concept would be able to accommodate six passengers and four crew members.  Presently we are not sure whether the design would be realized or not, but it is a very interesting concept to say the least.

Meet Lana Scolaro

Lana Scolaro is the daughter of businessman Francesco Scolaro & Socialite Anna Scolaro.  As such the 21 year old jewelry designer has spent much of her childhood jetting between Monaco, London, New York, Ibiza, Saint Barths, and many other chic locales, absorbing the finer points of culture around the globe that she would later put to good use in her jewelry designs.  Her love of fine jewelry & unique symbols—combined with an education at the prestigious Parsons School of Design at The New School in New York City have allowed Lana to create one of the most unique Jewelry Lines around.

How did you get into jewelry design?
“Design and Fine Art has always been my passion. I attended Parsons the New School for Design in New York and after one year I moved back to Monaco in order to focus on starting my own line with the jeweler connections I had close by in Vicenza, Italy.”

What was the inspiration for your current collection?
“I was initially inspired by the young, rebellious rock elite of our era, as I’d never seen fine controversial jewelry designed for a niche market of the young and fearless, involving weapons and illegal substances. I then realized that I did not want to provoke use of weapons through my designs, as the designs were merely for comical attraction, the same way children play with toy guns; so I decided it would be an idea to donate to specific War Funds such as War Child with each item sold.”

Walk me through your daily routine.
“If I’m going to be honest, I don’t have a daily routine and never have since school. I don’t believe life should be a consistent routine, as each day for me is different. I could spend one whole day with photographers shooting my line, or driving to Italy to the factories making sure my pieces are manufactured exactly how I would like them.”

What is the starting point in your design process?
“The starting point in my design process has always been a rough sketch of my imagination, I’ll then spend a lot of time with the dimensions of the product and precisely draw each design in my portfolio with the exact measurements. I’ll then send my designs to my manufacturer and he’ll send me back a preventive and the CAD files on the computer to see if I would like to go ahead with it before it is produced.”

Where is your all time favorite destination?
“Los Angeles is my favourite destination, I love the energy and stress free vibes there.”

What designers are you currently inspired by?
“Saint Laurent has always inspired my designs, especially with the gun purse in one of the collections. I have also always been a big fan of Anthony Vaccarello; which is ironic as he is now the creative director of Saint Laurent; I love how his collections are full of character, strong and fearless.”

What is your go to timepiece?
“My iPhone.”

When you travel, what items could you not go without?
“My headphones, Elizabeth Arden moisturizer, and my pink fluffy blanket.”

Favorite Restaurant in Monaco?
“Robouchon.”

image4 image5What was the most challenging obstacle you encountered since starting your own business?
“I realized that most of my collection is targeted at a niche market, which makes it very difficult to pitch the brand to the right people and places, especially deciding which countries to distribute the products to.”

How would you describe the LS Diamonds Customer?
“The LS Diamonds customer is young, reckless, and daring. They are street smart and are always up to date on the latest trends. If they are not making art, they are making music or watching independent films and hanging at places that aren’t in the spotlight. The LS Diamonds customer is exclusive, just like the collection.”

Where do you see LS Diamonds going next?
“LS Diamonds will be distributing more products in the U.S this Fall of 2016, mainly in stores in Los Angeles, Miami and New York. I will be launching a new range I have spent months designing towards the end of the year which I am beyond thrilled about.”

Cohiba’s most expensive Cigars

Cohiba is known for being one of the best cigar brands in the world and just like Gurkha they prove it with their oh so tempting premium cigars.  The name Cohiba derives from the Taíno word for “Tobacco.”  They produce two kinds of premium cigars one from the Dominican Republic and the other from Cuba.  Each cigar is priced anywhere from $12 to $140 and are made of only the finest materials.

The most expensive and luxurious cigar made by Cohiba is the Cohiba Behike cigar, each cigar is priced at $140 or $1,120 for a box (10).  Cohiba Behike has three sizes: BHK 52, BHK 54, and BHK 56.  The production is extremely limited and exclusive.  For the first time ever it assimilates the tobacco leaf “Medio tiempo” , which comes only from the two top leaves on sun-grown plants, offering exceptional character and flavor.  The inside of the cigar is made up of the finest leaves from Volado, Seco and Ligero originating from the finest Vegas of San Juan y Martinez and San Luis.

Each Behike is donned with a band housing two holograms for security identification.  The quantities are limited due to the natural scarcity of the Medio Tiempo tobacco leaf, which have never existed before.  The blend and beautiful lacquered boxes that are also a first in the industry.

The SkyRunner MK 3.2

For many years people have dreamed of creating a flying car, well today those dreams have finally come true.  Created by Los Angeles based SKYRUNNER, the vehicle has been awarded the S-LSA classification by the American Federal Aviation Administration designating it a legally recognized light aircraft.

The SkyRunner MK 3.2 has the appearance that of a go-kart, but don’t let that fool you for this one of a kind car is something out of the future.  With the ability to reach an altitude of 10,000 feet while maintaining a speed of 45mph or (72km/h).  The exoskeleton is created out of exposed tubular steel with carbon fiber and aircraft grade aluminium panels.  The car’s most noticeable feature is its large rear-mounted propeller.

Attaining full certification, the SkyRunner has been undergoing development and testing for several years, winning many fans in the process.  Dan Johnson, President of the Light Aircraft Manufacturing Association, called the vehicle: “A full-on macho pulse-pounder that catches the interest of people.” And thanks to it being  fully certified, full-on production can be launched and a backlog of existing orders can be cleared. “This airworthiness certification is monumental, as it now triggers serial production, creates jobs, and makes for happy customers,” said Daryl Ballard, SkyRunner Shop Foreman.

The Maneuverability of the car in the air is pretty straightforward: Toggle left or right to steer or drop or raise the accelerator pedal to ascend or descend. “This is one of the most significant milestones in our company’s history,” said Stewart Hamel, SkyRunner’s CEO and Founder.  A SkyRunner retails for approximately $119,000, but there is a lot of optional extras, from carbon fiber racing seats ($1,899) all the way to a set of augmented reality driving and flight goggles that offer a head up display and facial protection ($750).  Anyone that lives in areas that suffer extremes of weather, the car can also be specified with pro caterpillar tracks for an extra $5,200.  This new multi terrain vehicle shows us that you don’t have to be “James Bond” to fly something as extraordinary as this.
